Health Care Assistant

The Red Deer ICU is a dynamic and fast-paced unit providing care to critically ill patients from the Central Zone. We are seeking healthcare aids to join our multidisciplinary team.
Description:As a Health Care Aide, you will work collaboratively with the team to provide personal assistance, including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers, assisting nurses with routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs. You will also assist with organized activities or programs and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing.
Required Qualifications:Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider BCLS-HCP is required. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, to provide quality care to patients, and to report observations. Experience in acute care within the last three years is essential. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education is required. Self-directed individual with a positive attitude, and demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, evidenced by performance appraisals and reference checks.
Preferred Qualifications:Immediate past experience on medical units is preferred. Please note that all acute care, continuing care, mental health, and public health applications require a cover letter and current resume outlining experience and abilities relevant to the position.
