About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Therapist to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering time-limited, evidence-based psycho-social assessments and treatments to adults with Tier-3 mental disorders and Substance Use Disorders.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in a clinical health-related discipline and current registration with the relevant provincial regulatory body. You will have a minimum of two years' related experience, including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning.

You will be expected to convey respect and a solid understanding of subtle and complex diversity and inclusion issues as they relate to specific groups. You will also be required to participate in a consultation group to ensure collegial support, accountability, and effectiveness of assessments and treatments.

About You
  • You have a Master's Degree in a clinical health-related discipline.
  • You are currently registered with the relevant provincial regulatory body.
  • You have a minimum of two years' related experience, including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning.
  • You have in-depth and critical understanding of the principles of harm reduction, the dynamics of addiction, and evidence-based interventions for the treatment of addiction.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used (DSM-5) for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge and skills in individual/group cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psycho-educational groups.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide, and violence risk assessment/intervention.
  • You have demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • You have basic competencies in relation to identifying and treating concurrent mental health and substance use disorders.
  • You have experience in interviewing, counseling, and teaching health concepts to individuals, families, and groups.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating with families in relation to sharing information, and implementing family-sensitive services that involve families in the care and recovery of people living with mental illness and addiction.
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset, French preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Clinical Therapist
$48.81 hourly

Clinical Therapist (Developmental)
$41.80 hourly
