About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Food Service Worker to join our team in the patient and retail food service setting. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for preparing and serving meals and supplies to patients, residents, veterans, staff, families, and customers. You will also be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing patient trays, related equipment, and workplaces, while supporting safe food handling procedures and providing overall service excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve patient meals, including assembling, portioning, and serving meals, as well as preparing "mix & serve" menu items.
  • Deliver and distribute selective menus and patient meals, as well as deliver nourishments and supplies.
  • Collect soiled patient trays and maintain a clean and sanitized work environment.
  • Participate in receiving and storing supplies, using First In First Out (FIFO) procedures.
  • Receive and interpret patient diet/meal orders, confirm patient meal requirements, and maintain inventory management.
  • Generate and print menus, reports, tallies, and labels, as well as print Meditech/STAR reports and compare to CBORD/Vision reports.
About You

We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following qualifications:

  • Grade 12/GED or equivalent, or demonstrated skills and/or relevant work experience, with equivalency clearly stated in your cover letter and resume.
  • Demonstrated competency in English and basic Math.
  • Restaurant experience is considered an asset.
  • Customer Service Skills are considered an asset.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to provide services and achieve departmental and/or organizational goals.
  • Ability to perform duties within expected timeframes and standards of accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively while demonstrating civility and respect.
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French preferred.
Working Conditions

This is a long assignment, part-full time position, with 40% FTE and 30 hours bi-weekly. The position requires frequent physical demands, including extensive standing and walking, bending, lifting (maximum of 35-40lbs), pulling, and pushing, as well as transferring/transporting equipment.

Compensation and Incentives

The hourly rate for this position is $20.02.
