The Department of Quality & Patient Safety at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is in search of a dedicated Performance Improvement Specialist. This role is pivotal in uniting essential clinical leaders and personnel to enhance performance in quality and patient safety domains. We aim to enrich our team with an energetic individual who has expertise in quality enhancement, systems architecture, and project assessment. This position will report directly to the Manager of Quality & Patient Safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate intricate corporate quality enhancement and patient safety projects
  • Guide clinical teams in implementing diverse quality enhancement and patient safety methodologies (e.g., Human Factors, PDSA, root cause analysis, FMEA, lean principles, value stream mapping)
  • Analyze workflows and data, propose and execute strategies to elevate patient care safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness
  • Utilize a systems-oriented approach to attain optimal outcomes in quality, safety, efficiency, and productivity
  • Identify and develop performance and outcome metrics
  • Assist teams in the collection, interpretation, analysis, and presentation of performance metrics
  • Create process enhancement tools for application at the point of care
  • Implement change management strategies and mentor clinical teams throughout the transition
  • Deliver educational sessions to staff via interprofessional education platforms
  • Establish and nurture positive relationships with all project stakeholders, ensuring timely communication and engagement
  • Prepare and present summaries of project milestones and outcomes to various committees
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Formal training/certification in Quality Improvement and/or Patient Safety is required
  • Lean/Six Sigma training or certification is preferred
  • A degree in a health-related field or Industrial/Process Engineering is required (Master's degree is an asset)
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in patient safety/quality improvement within a healthcare setting is preferred
  • Experience in leading comprehensive (e.g., hospital-wide) quality improvement/patient safety initiatives
  • Proven experience in project management
  • Demonstrated team leadership and conflict resolution abilities
  • Strong problem recognition, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation capabilities
  • Familiarity with hospital organizational structures and processes is preferred
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment while multitasking and prioritizing
  • Proficiency in MS Office is required
  • Experience with databases is a plus
