Healthcare Support Specialist, Medical Float

Position: Personal Support Worker, Medical Float (Temporary, Full-Time)
Department: Medical Float Team
Compensation: $29.73 per hour
Location: Northumberland Hills Hospital is a dynamic community healthcare facility offering a wide array of acute, post-acute, outpatient, and diagnostic services.
Role Summary: The Personal Support Worker (PSW) is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals in Acute and Post-Acute Care settings. This includes assisting with personal hygiene, daily living activities, and mobility in accordance with established care plans. The PSW will also provide support for oral care, feeding, and skin care to prevent Hospital Acquired Pressure Injuries. Additionally, the PSW will engage patients with dementia through stimulating activities and meaningful interactions. The role requires the ability to work independently while being supervised by a regulated healthcare professional.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Completion of the Ontario College Certificate in Personal Support Work
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.), Level II: Basic Rescuer
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Experience in utilizing proper body mechanics for patient transport
- Familiarity with mobility aids and person-centered care practices
- Recent experience in patient care is preferred
Preferred Assets:
- Certification in Gentle Persuasive Approach
- Experience with EPIC software
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to manage a demanding workload
- Capable of responding effectively in high-pressure situations
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication abilities
- Commitment to safe work practices
- Requirement to wear personal protective equipment
- Contribute positively to patient safety initiatives
Employment Prerequisites:
Candidates must present a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check and complete a Health Care Worker Health review process. A mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy is enforced.
