POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the guidance of a licensed Pharmacist, the Licensed Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in various technical functions, which include medication counseling, drug dispensing, electronic drug order processing, distribution of controlled substances, bulk drug compounding, preparation of chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition (TPN) formulation, drug pre-packaging, replenishment of ward stock medications, and preparation of sterile pharmaceutical products.
WORK SCHEDULE:
The ideal candidate must be prepared to work all shifts relevant to the department. Additionally, this role requires flexibility to accommodate occasional schedule adjustments to meet the operational demands of the department, along with a commitment to the non-availability stipulations outlined in the applicable Collective Agreement.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program from a recognized post-secondary institution; Current certification in good standing as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) with the Ontario College of Pharmacists; Proven accuracy in electronic order processing, pharmaceutical calculations, and application of pharmaceutical and medical terminology, including familiarity with generic and brand name medications; Experience with computerized order entry systems, preferably Pharmnet applications and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); Preference will be given to candidates with experience in an acute care hospital environment; Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and occasionally high-pressure setting; Experience and capability to demonstrate proficiency in aseptic techniques and preparation of sterile dosage forms, including adult, pediatric, and neonatal products (TPN and IV admixtures) preferred; Familiarity with purchasing and inventory management is a significant advantage; Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment as well as work independently; Exceptional interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills; Proven ability to adhere to specific instructions with a high degree of precision; Physical capability to perform the responsibilities of the position, including moderate lifting and maneuvering carts; Acceptable attendance in accordance with the organization's attendance policy.Candidates must provide proof of having received a complete primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine or a combination of vaccines authorized by Health Canada, with the final dose administered at least 14 days prior to commencing employment.
