POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the guidance of a licensed Pharmacist, the Licensed Pharmacy Technician engages in a variety of technical responsibilities, which encompass medication counseling, drug dispensing, electronic drug order processing, distribution of controlled substances, bulk drug compounding, preparation of chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition (TPN) formulation, drug pre-packaging, inventory drug replacement, delivery of medications, and preparation of sterile pharmaceutical products.
WORK SCHEDULE:
The ideal candidate must be prepared to work all shifts relevant to the department. Furthermore, this role requires flexibility to adapt to occasional schedule adjustments to fulfill the operational demands of the department and to adhere to the non-availability stipulations outlined in the applicable Collective Agreement.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program from a recognized post-secondary institution; Current certification in good standing as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) with the Ontario College of Pharmacists; Proven accuracy in electronic order processing, pharmaceutical calculations, and application of pharmaceutical and medical terminology, including knowledge of both generic and brand name medications; Familiarity with computerized order entry systems, preferably Pharmnet applications and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); Preference will be given to candidates with experience in an acute care hospital environment; Ability to thrive in a high-pressure and fast-paced setting; Experience and capability to demonstrate proficiency in aseptic techniques and preparation of sterile dosage forms, including adult, pediatric, and neonatal products (TPN and IV admixtures) preferred; Experience in procurement and inventory management is a definite advantage; Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team and work independently; Exceptional interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills; Proven ability to adhere to specific instructions with a high degree of precision; Physical capability to perform the duties of the position, including moderate lifting and maneuvering carts; Acceptable attendance in accordance with the attendance at work program.Successful candidates must provide evidence of having received a full primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine or combination of vaccines authorized by Health Canada, and having received the final dose 14 days before entering the facility.
