Public Works Dispatcher

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Public Works Dispatcher to join our team at the City of Vancouver. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for dispatching crews and equipment, responding to emergency calls, and providing exceptional customer service to the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dispatching crews and equipment to respond to public works emergencies and routine maintenance requests
  • Responding to emergency calls and providing critical information to the public
  • Utilizing a call management system to record calls, work history, and dispatching information
  • Maintaining accurate records and data entry for payroll time entry, costs, and billing
  • Providing liaison services between mobile users, branch offices, City Hall, and other public agencies
  • Assisting police, fire, and related departments under emergency conditions
  • Dealing with staff and members of the public in a professional and courteous manner

Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 12, including or supplemented by courses in mapping software, MS Office programs, and other standard software courses
  • Considerable related clerical experience working with computerized record keeping systems, excellent numerical skills, and good attention to detail
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior public works dispatch and operator experience

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. They will be required to work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions based on knowledge of departmental and City policies and procedures.
