The Opportunity

We are in search of a driven and enthusiastic Senior Designer to join our Vancouver office, where we engage in diverse projects spanning multiple building types such as commercial, mixed-use, retail, industrial, hospitality, public infrastructure, and healthcare. In this role, you will provide design leadership across various initiatives, potentially overseeing the entire design process or serving as a technical expert on specialized design aspects, while acting as a design resource for specific project components. You may handle several concurrent projects of varying scales, including those that are large and intricate. Additionally, you will contribute to the education and development of design staff. Experience in healthcare design is crucial.

Your Responsibilities at Kasian:

Project Planning

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager (PM) to develop work plans, drawing lists, scope of services, budgets, and staffing requirements.
  • Review and monitor project scope, initiating corrective actions in partnership with the PM.

Project Delivery

  • Lead the design process at Kasian by creating design concepts, generating presentation materials, and preparing necessary documentation.
  • Ensure conceptual design excellence by initiating ideas and discussions.
  • Guide the design team throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Implement design standards and guidelines effectively.
  • Take responsibility for the successful delivery of project design, including coordination of design, production, contract administration, and financial performance across multiple projects.
  • Collaborate with technical and contract administration teams to ensure design development and contract documentation align with Kasian's quality standards, client programs, and budgetary requirements.
  • Lead project meetings and client presentations, or co-chair with the Project Manager/Project Director.
  • Engage with clients on a variety of sensitive administrative and management matters, which may include invoicing, contract interpretation, scheduling, and deliverable content.
  • Work with regulatory authorities to interpret and comply with codes and bylaws.
  • Prepare contract documents and specifications as needed.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records.
  • Coordinate submissions for building and development permits.

Project Review

Promptly inform your supervisor of any project performance issues and collaborate to resolve challenges, including ongoing quality reviews and monitoring of budget and schedule.

  • Participate in the peer review process for Kasian projects.

Your Qualifications:

  • Arch or M. Arch from an accredited architectural program with a minimum of 10+ years of architectural experience; at least 5 years in healthcare projects.
  • Registration with a provincial regulatory board is an asset.
  • Proven ability to provide design leadership.
  • Strong technical foundation.
  • Proficient in design software, with Revit being a preferred asset.
  • Excellent time management and teamwork capabilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable building codes and regulations.
  • Advanced understanding of construction practices.

Salary starts at $83,000+ per annum, based on a standard 40-hour work week. Actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, and skill set.
