Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Prevention Support Worker to join our team at Lake of the Woods District Hospital. As a key member of our Mental Health and Addictions department, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals in their recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend to the admission, care, and discharge of clients, providing a supportive and non-judgmental approach to prevention support work.
  • Assist clients through the stages of change, providing support services for effective care transition and discharge planning.
  • Provide support services for the functioning of the facility through group work and working across programs.
  • Collaborate with other service providers to ensure comprehensive care and support for clients.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community and district treatment resources to ensure access to necessary services.
Requirements
  • Diploma in addictions or social services is required.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid is mandatory.
  • WHMIS training is essential.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI) is required.
  • Completion of support and assist course for medication is required upon hiring.
  • Basic counselling and screening skills are necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to observe and record appropriately.
  • Capable of maintaining cooperative working relationships and liaising with various other service providers.
  • Ability to provide resource referrals and effectively advocate for clients.
  • Crisis intervention skills and conflict resolution experience are required to support clients.
  • Effective critical thinking skills are essential.
  • Previous experience working with a vulnerable population is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience working within the context of recovery, harm reduction, therapeutic engagement, homelessness, and trauma-informed approach.
  • Effective interpersonal/communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet client and operational needs.
  • Ability to organize and manage routine and administrative tasks.
  • Consistently utilizes a non-judgmental approach to prevention support work.
  • Awareness of community and district treatment resources is essential.
  • Telephone etiquette is necessary.
  • Knowledge of the Ojibway language and culture would be considered an asset.
  • The ability to work as part of a peer supervision model.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience with and knowledge of harm reduction strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced/multitask environment.
  • Demonstrated proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite, Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Class G driver's license with a clean drivers abstract.
  • Demonstrated reliable attendance record.
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable population in the Mental Health and Addictions Field is an asset.
  • Previous experience working in an abstinence and harm reduction environment is an asset.
