Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate medical, personal, and financial data to determine eligibility for applications submitted for Life and Critical Illness Insurance products.
  • Assess and categorize risk. Collect additional information, request medical tests, or refer cases as necessary.
  • Authorize cases within your authority limit. Forward cases exceeding limits for co-signature.
  • In instances where decisions are unfavorable for clients, negotiate improved outcomes with our reinsurers, adhering to reinsurance agreements and internal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with business leaders and advisors to deliver exceptional service and expertise.
  • Address inquiries from financial advisors and general agents while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications for Success:

  • Bilingual proficiency (French and English, both spoken and written) is essential for regular interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada and globally.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter.
  • Existing signing authorities for Life and Critical Illness.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong analytical, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Familiarity with medical knowledge and risk factors.
  • A service-oriented mindset with interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Specialized training: ALU certificate and a commitment to ongoing education aimed at achieving Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations.
