Course Title: ROB311H1S: Artificial Intelligence
Course Overview: This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the essential concepts of artificial intelligence through a mathematical lens. It will explore the historical evolution of AI and highlight significant milestones within the discipline. Key topics will encompass the philosophy of AI, problem-solving search techniques, knowledge representation, reasoning, logic, planning, and various learning paradigms. A significant focus will be placed on ethical considerations in AI, embodied AI, and the pursuit of artificial general intelligence.
Position Details:
- Number of Positions: One (1)
- Estimated Teaching Assistant Support: Two (2) TAs
- Expected Course Enrollment: Approximately 72 students
- Class Schedule: Thursdays 1 – 3 pm & Fridays 3 – 5 pm
- Hours: 1 HCE (up to a maximum of 230 hours)
- Sessional Dates: January 1 – April 30, 2025
Compensation: The salary for this position is based on CUPE minimum salary rates for a 0.65 half course (HCE), inclusive of vacation pay. The rates are as follows: Sessional Lecturer 1 - $5,518.29; Sessional Lecturer 1 Long Term - $5,765.01; Sessional Lecturer 2 - $5,905.63; and Sessional Lecturer 3 - $6,000. Should there be any discrepancies between the rates stated in this posting and those in the Collective Agreement, the latter shall take precedence.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least a Master's degree in Robotics or Computer Science, along with an undergraduate degree in a related robotics discipline such as computer engineering, control, or mechatronics. A solid academic foundation in machine learning and computational/numerical methods is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a robust understanding of artificial intelligence, robotics, and mechatronics, with strong knowledge in robotic sensing, control, and spatial perception. Proficiency in engineering mathematics, particularly in complex variables and ordinary differential equations, is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a demonstrated commitment to teaching, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team are also necessary.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience as an instructor in Robotics or Computer Science is highly desirable, along with familiarity with the specific needs of the Robotics program and a strong working relationship with its faculty.
Responsibilities:
- Preparing and delivering lectures
- Designing and administering examinations
- Grading assignments and exams
- Providing constructive feedback and support to students, both individually and in groups
- Recording and managing grades
- Adapting to online teaching requirements if necessary
