Job Summary

Island Health is seeking a full-time Geriatric Psychiatrist to join our team in the Cowichan Valley. As a Geriatric Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing psychiatric services to patients over 65 years of age with psychiatric and/or cognitive challenges and indices of frailty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consulting status for outpatients, psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, direct and indirect care, multidisciplinary team leadership, and medico-legal expertise as required by the BC Mental Health and Adult Guardianship Acts.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to patients.
  • Participate in the Island Medical Program undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the continuous improvement of patient care.

Requirements

  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
  • Board certification in Psychiatry with a focus on Geriatric Psychiatry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong clinical and leadership skills.
