Overview

The Team
The Youth Outreach and Empowerment Team (YOET) is a dedicated and supportive group focused on enhancing the lives of children in British Columbia. They collaborate closely with Indigenous and diverse cultural communities, as well as various service providers, to ensure that every child reaches their full potential. Their efforts include reviewing service agreements and making referrals to other organizations to provide comprehensive support tailored to each child's unique needs.

The Role
In this position, you will independently engage with high-risk youth in challenging and complex circumstances, managing crises and emotionally charged situations that arise from youth protection requirements. Your contributions will be vital in supporting some of the most vulnerable children in the province, who encounter a variety of difficulties. This role presents an opportunity to positively impact the lives of numerous children and families by providing essential support and care.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements

1. Preferred Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with a completed practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees holding a regular SPO 24-30 base position requiring delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent if they are registered and in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or possess a letter from the College confirming that their registration application has been approved.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, it must be assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). A comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report must be provided by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
2. Expanded Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER completing an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of one year of relevant OR job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, it must be assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). A basic report must be provided by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology, or Nursing.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees holding a regular SPO 24-30 base position requiring delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • A Child Welfare Specialization from an accredited British Columbia university with completed practicum in a child welfare setting.
  • Experience providing services to vulnerable and high-risk youth.
  • Experience in addiction or substance abuse programs.
  • Experience working with Indigenous children, families, and communities.
  • Recent work experience in Child Protection.
  • Experience in developing collaborative partnerships with community organizations.
  • Currently holding full Child Welfare delegation (C6) under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
Additional Information:
  • Applicants may be considered who have not yet graduated but have completed all required courses and can provide a letter from their educational institution confirming completion of degree requirements.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restrictions or an equivalent from another Canadian Province.
