Operations Manager Job Description

The Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our airport screening services. This position requires a strong leader who can manage a large workforce, maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, and ensure compliance with aviation security regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage screening checkpoints to ensure compliance with service level agreements.
  • Work with labor relations experts to create an engaged workforce that meets or exceeds CATSA deliverables.
  • Investigate performance and misconduct issues, ensuring all necessary steps are taken in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Monitor and reduce incidents, addressing performance issues promptly and providing leadership and support to team members.
  • Lead performance reviews for Screening Officers, incorporating feedback from Service Delivery Managers.
  • Collaborate with the People and Culture department to ensure candidates are adequately prepared for CATSA training and on-the-job training.
  • Exercise excellent customer service skills, responding to complaints and providing support as needed.
  • Perform emergency and incident response, exercising expertise in security protocols.
  • Conduct audits of screening processes, identifying areas for improvement and directing the Training Department to address deficiencies.
  • Coordinate the movement of Screening Officers between checkpoints to minimize security screening wait times.
  • Conduct security briefings to ensure all security notices, bulletins, and directives are adhered to.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, stakeholders, and union representatives.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of managerial experience, managing a large workforce.
  • Previous experience managing unionized employees is an asset.
  • Leadership and team management skills are essential.
  • Previous experience in aviation security or a related field is required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to analyze data and make strategic decisions in real-time.
  • Familiarity with aviation industry regulations and standards.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
  • Ability to acquire Transportation Security Clearance (TSC).
  • Ability to successfully complete Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit (AVOP) Training and obtain D/A certification.
  • Ability to successfully complete Aeronautical Radio Operator's Certificate (A-ROC).

Salary: $85,000 - $90,000

Work Hours: 24/7 positions, requiring open availability for morning, afternoon, and overnight shifts.

Location: Vancouver International Airport (YVR)
