Assistant Director of Camping and Outdoor Education

Job Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director of Camping and Outdoor Education will provide leadership to spring and fall Outdoor Education programs and rental groups. This includes developing safe, values-based programs that build assets in children, youth, and families, training and developing program staff, and delivering all aspects of the outdoor education program. The Assistant Director will also provide support to the summer camp program, including supervision of managers and oversight of certain program and/or support departments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver high-quality outdoor education programs for spring and fall seasons.
  • Train and develop program staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver programs.
  • Ensure programs align with YMCA values, Ontario Camping Quality Recommended Practices, and OPHEA guidelines.
  • Build strong relationships with new and existing outdoor center clients.
  • Provide support to the Director during the summer camp season.
  • Assist with camper registration, staff hiring, staff training, and staff supervision.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in recreation, education, or a related field.
  • At least 2 seasons of prior camp supervisory experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Valid G driver's license.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification.
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC).
  • Ability to live on-site from early May to Thanksgiving weekend.
  • Clear Police Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Willingness to participate in mandated training.
