The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT), established in 1976, is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution dedicated to empowering individuals through education. With the authority to grant certificates and diplomas, SIIT serves over 2400 students annually and supports more than 6000 clients through various Career Centres across the province. The Institute plays a vital role in shaping Saskatchewan's economic landscape, and your contributions can enhance this mission while advancing your career.

Position Summary

The Director of Educational Extensions is a pivotal leader within the Academics department, responsible for overseeing the administration and operations of diverse academic programs and initiatives. This role is essential in ensuring efficient business operations and maintaining high standards in academic offerings. The Director will actively promote and cultivate an environment that reflects SIIT's vision, mission, and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

The Director will be accountable for:

  • Strategic planning, promotion, and development of Extensions programming, including Early Childhood Education and Wellness Community Development initiatives.
  • Providing academic and administrative leadership within the Academics department, including coaching and guiding direct reports to achieve a unified vision.
  • Implementing programs in a timely manner while advocating for best practices in research, instruction, and community engagement.
  • Collaborating with program heads and faculty to review and recommend updates to curricula, ensuring alignment with industry standards and community needs.
  • Leading new program initiatives and fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support successful program development.

Academic Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Associate Vice-President to provide academic leadership in program development and implementation.
  • Evaluate the relevance of courses and programs, ensuring the curriculum meets current employment and industry standards.
  • Support the proposal process for funding requests to enhance program offerings.
  • Utilize data-driven decision-making to inform program planning based on community needs and labor market forecasts.
  • Modernize program content to engage First Nations learners effectively.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with First Nation communities, employers, and educational institutions to enhance SIIT's reputation and foster collaboration.
  • Represent SIIT at external events and committees to promote the Institute and its programs.

Financial Oversight

  • Review and guide departmental budgets and operational plans to ensure financial viability.
  • Support budget planning by providing accurate analysis and recommendations.

People Management

  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, coaching and mentoring staff for professional growth.
  • Address performance issues promptly and maintain high standards of accountability among team members.

Qualifications

A Master's degree in education or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 6 years of leadership experience in post-secondary management. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with a collaborative approach, are essential. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations is also required.
