As a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic at Sandvik, you will be tasked with the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of the mechanical components of Battery Electric mining machinery and parts, adhering to established specifications. You will also oversee the commissioning of new equipment and provide training at client locations.

Your Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and servicing on equipment.
  • Plan for the necessary tools and parts required to execute tasks, following all work protocols.
  • Commission products, which includes pre-delivery inspections and operational commissioning at customer sites.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and resolve common issues as the first line of support.
  • Recognize components, comprehend basic functionality, and carry out maintenance and repair work accordingly, focusing on preventive and cost-effective repairs.
  • Enhance the customer's product/equipment/processes by proposing potential improvements (in line with sales area requirements).
  • Utilize your knowledge and experience to address standard customer issues.
  • Understand system functionality and the interactions among hydraulics, mechanics, electrical systems, automation, pneumatics, and materials.
  • Complete maintenance reports for both internal and external stakeholders, documenting maintenance and repairs performed. Secure customer approval for invoicing.
  • Occasionally gather technical feedback in the Sales Area (to be inputted into the Database).
  • Delegate simple tasks to junior staff and guide them in their execution.
  • Instruct customer technicians on fundamental servicing and maintenance principles.
  • Ensure that all routine work procedures (using the provided tools) are conducted in accordance with safety standards.

Environmental Health and Safety

  • Adhere to Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology safety policies and applicable governmental, customer, or industry regulations.
  • Take responsibility for identifying and reporting unsafe work practices, workplace incidents, and near misses. Conduct risk assessments ('Take Five') prior to each task.
  • Maintain hand tools and equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Keep an organized work area and meet housekeeping standards.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health, and Safety training sessions.
  • Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) designated for each task.

Your Qualifications

  • Diploma in a Mechanical/Electrical Field and a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic License.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with mining equipment is advantageous.
  • Prior experience with Sandvik equipment is a plus.
  • Exceptional ability to read schematics.
  • Proven capability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues with mining machinery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications (MS Office).
  • Valid driver's license and readiness to travel to local mine sites and throughout Western Canada as necessary.
  • Willingness to work varied shifts as required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
