Are you looking to join a collaborative team where you will handle advanced accounting and financial reporting for intricate capital initiatives? Do you possess exceptional communication and organizational skills? You could become a vital member of the Business Financial Analytics (BFA) - Capital team, which is tasked with executing general capital project accounting, funding assessments, account reconciliations, and grant reporting for various capital programs, while also offering accounting advice for capital transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage project accounting for capital initiatives sanctioned under the municipal capital budget
  • Evaluate project transactions against the accounting framework and ascertain the suitable accounting treatment
  • Ensure all capital initiatives are adequately funded, including accounting for and reporting on external funding agreements
  • Supervise the review of Assets Under Construction and the establishment/capitalization of tangible capital assets
  • Review and authorize month-end and year-end adjustments and accruals
  • Prepare or evaluate working paper packages related to capital financial reporting
  • Provide leadership, direction, guidance, and oversight to a team of 1-3 individuals by articulating departmental vision, tasks, values, and core deliverables
  • Lead performance management for team members, including performance evaluations and feedback delivery
  • Engage in system enhancement and process improvement initiatives
  • Perform related duties as necessary
Qualifications Required:
  • A Degree in Accounting is mandatory
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) is essential
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible financial reporting experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory role

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with a keen attention to detail
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with SAP, Google Suite, and other relevant systems
  • Familiarity with public sector accounting standards as outlined by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada Public Sector Handbook
  • Strong grasp of year-end accounting processes and experience in preparing complex financial statements and reconciliations
  • Ability to adhere to established business practices, internal controls, and policies within a large corporate environment
  • High level of analytical and conceptual skills to identify and resolve intricate financial issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, customer service, time management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to maintain professional relationships across all management levels
  • Capability to direct, mentor, and coach team members
