Permanent Education Assistant On-Call Positions

The Vancouver School District #39 is seeking a qualified Education Assistant to provide on-call support to students in various schools within the district. As an Education Assistant, you will work under the direction of senior staff members to implement individual programs and contracts for students with special needs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide support to students with special needs in a variety of settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, and community-based programs.
- Implement individual programs and contracts for students, including behavioral support and academic assistance.
- Evaluate and maintain records of student progress, and discuss changes to their programs with senior staff members.
- Support parent engagement through workshops and events, and coordinate with community agencies as required.
- Organize and participate in field trips, sports, social, recreational, and craft activities, and support students in community-based work experience, travel training, and relevant community outings.
- Support students with social/emotional challenges and unexpected behaviors, and prepare instructional aid materials.
- Perform other work within the job band as required.
- Completion of Grade 12.
- Completion of a Special Education Assistant program or related field, and over two (2) months of experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Lift and position students up to 35 pounds.
- Run after a student to avert them from danger.
- Provide personal care, including diaper changes and feeding.
- Available to work full-time Monday to Friday.
- Where applicable, possess or be willing to obtain an Occupational First Aid Certificate, and be required to perform Occupational First Aid duties if assigned by the Principal.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training (e.g., CPI or MANDT).
- An excellent practicum or work evaluation.
- Experience using techniques of Applied Behaviour Analysis.
- Completion of POPARD coursework.
- Ability to speak a second language.
