About the Vancouver Prostate Centre

The VPC is recognized for its extensive array of interdisciplinary research initiatives in fundamental, clinical, and translational cancer studies. It holds the status of a National Centre of Excellence and is designated as a Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research. The Centre collaborates closely with the University of British Columbia and the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.

About the Somasekharan Lab

The Somasekharan laboratory is at the forefront of innovative research aimed at elucidating the significance of RNA regulatory networks in both health and disease contexts. The ideal candidate for this role should possess a strong enthusiasm for exploring RNA biology and biomolecular condensates. The successful applicant will focus on investigating the regulatory mechanisms of mRNA translation specifically in prostate cancer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced research in RNA biology.
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts and research proposals.
  • Collaborate with partners and present research outcomes at international conferences.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in cell culture, immunofluorescence microscopy, live cell imaging, in-situ hybridization, mass spectrometry, purification of recombinant proteins using prokaryotic expression systems, isolation of polysome mRNA, electrophoretic mobility shift assays, qRT-PCR, and co-immunoprecipitation, as demonstrated by first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strong knowledge of statistics, RNA sequencing, proteomics data analysis, and database management.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Personable, organized, and capable of thriving in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment.

Salary Information

The salary range for this Postdoctoral Fellowship is $50,000 to $60,000 per annum, with compensation commensurate to qualifications and experience.
