Job Summary

The City of Mississauga is seeking a skilled and versatile individual to fill the role of Parks Person II - Turf. This position involves a range of responsibilities, including turf maintenance, horticultural practices, and general maintenance of parkland facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain turf routes and schedules for parkland grass-cutting, including parks, trail networks, leash-free zones, arenas, community centers, libraries, outdoor pools, and other facilities as needed.
  • Assist with horticultural practices, integrated pest management, pruning, planting, mulching, and other related tasks.
  • Conduct inspections and report on parkland amenities and property.
  • Assist with installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of minor irrigation projects.
  • Support the renovation of sports fields.
  • Act as a liaison between departments and teams, including general contractors, other city departments, and community groups.
  • Provide leadership and training to team members, including equipment operation, policies, and standards.
  • Answer inquiries from the public and city staff.
  • Participate in litter and garbage collection, and assist with special events and community activities.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in horticulture or turf management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Class "G" Ontario driver's license.
  • Valid Class "DZ" Ontario driver's license considered an asset.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification required.
  • Ability to operate and maintain small and large vehicles and equipment.
  • Comfortable working in parkland environments with exposure to varying temperatures, weather conditions, and contaminants.
