Job Summary
The Toronto Star is seeking a skilled journalist to join our Editorial Department on a 12-month contract. The successful candidate will focus on City Hall reporting and will be responsible for producing high-quality, engaging content that meets the needs of our readers.
Key Responsibilities
- Report and write authoritatively on breaking news and provide perspective and analysis
- Collaborate with colleagues throughout the newsroom to produce stories that are accurate, comprehensive, and compelling
- Develop and maintain contacts and sources, and demonstrate resourcefulness in gathering information
- Interview people in demanding situations and produce high-quality copy on deadline
- Manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of municipal government in Toronto and its impact on the community
Requirements
- Professional experience as a reporter
- Advanced journalism skills, including news judgment, storytelling, and multimedia skills
- Excellent writing skills and ability to produce engaging content
- Self-starter with a flexible and adaptable approach
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Relentless attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Familiarity with access to information procedures and databases
- Well-versed in CP style
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is $59,360 to $93,863, and the hours of work will vary according to the assignment. The position will be located in Toronto.
