Rehabilitation Assistant

Fraser Health is seeking a skilled Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team at Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody, BC. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will work under the direction of a professional nurse, physiotherapist, or occupational therapist to implement treatment plans and assist patients in achieving their rehabilitation goals.
Responsibilities- Carry out designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan under the direction of a physiotherapist or occupational therapist, including activities of daily living, mobility, and strengthening and balancing exercises.
- Assist patients with mobility and provide input into the planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment plans.
- Perform various tests as assigned by PT or OT, such as the Berg Balance, Timed Up and Go (TUG), and six-minute walk test, and record and report relevant data for interpretation by the therapist.
- Prepare and apply therapeutic treatment modalities as assigned by PT or OT, such as transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS), neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), hot packs, ice, and wax treatments.
- Provide functional skills training to patients and families in activities of daily living, mobility, and communication, and demonstrate the use of assistive devices as assigned by PT or OT.
- Assist with power and manual wheelchair mobility training and provide training to patients and families in mobility and demonstrate the use of assistive devices directed by nursing.
- Maintain therapy equipment and supplies, including cleaning equipment and maintaining inventories, and provide input regarding the purchase of new equipment and supplies.
Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, deal with others effectively, and organize work. Ability to operate related equipment and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
