Position Overview

The Chief Fundraising Officer will be instrumental in enhancing and advocating for the "Pathways To Leadership" (PTL) organization, its governing body, and the PTL integration framework. This role encompasses elevating visibility, fostering relationships, broadening leadership avenues for PTL graduates, coordinating board activities, training, and securing financial support for our mission-driven initiatives. You will be tasked with identifying funding opportunities, crafting proposals, and overseeing the entire grant application process. This position demands exceptional writing abilities, meticulous attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to effecting positive change within our community. You will operate under the guidance of the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising:

● Formulate both long-term and short-term fundraising strategies.

● A solid understanding of Canadian funding mechanisms is essential.

● Pinpoint potential grant opportunities from governmental bodies, foundations, and other funding organizations.

● Conduct thorough research to comprehend the funding priorities, guidelines, and stipulations of each grant opportunity.

● Utilize grant search tools to compile a comprehensive list of prospective funders.

● Manage a portfolio of foundation and government funders, collaborating with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and submit grant deliverables.

● Maintain an organized library of grant support documents.

● Draft clear, compelling, and persuasive grant proposals, including budgets, in collaboration with program staff and leadership.

  • Ensure timely submission of all proposals that meet specific grant application requirements.
  • Monitor and report on the status of grant applications and awards.
  • Guarantee compliance with grant reporting obligations and deadlines.

● Cultivate relationships with grant-making organizations and programs.

Outreach and Communication:

● Over a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership, including operational management, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement.

● Advocate for and promote the "Pathways to Leadership with Racialized Immigrant and Refugee Women's" integration model to other organizations and funders in partnership with the Executive Director.

● Extensive experience in establishing successful partnerships among nonprofits, equity-seeking organizations, and government agencies.

  • Compose a variety of materials, including detailed reports and internal communications.
  • Review and propose new processes and best practices for external communications.
  • Prepare reports for external funders under the Executive Director's guidance.

Operational Leadership:

● Supervise the research consultant responsible for surveying and organizing focus groups with past PTL graduates.

● Collaborate with the Executive Director and a small group of PTL graduates to define survey questions and focus group formats, analyze survey results, and produce research reports.

● Identify and arrange various training and leadership development opportunities for PTL Board members who are graduates of the PTL program.

● Organize and facilitate Board meetings and support the working committees of the Board.

● Oversee the bookkeeper's work, including the preparation of financial statements and reports for funders.

● Lead the organization of learning events and social gatherings with past PTL graduates.

● Provide operational leadership for the implementation of new PTL initiatives as funding becomes available.

● Plan, draft, and submit funder reporting requirements according to the established schedule.

● Detail-oriented with the ability to navigate databases and present Pathways graduate data effectively.

● Proficient in Excel.

● Collective-oriented with experience in working closely with teams on complex projects.

● Skilled in building trusting relationships across diverse backgrounds.

● Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between program objectives and funding opportunities.

Strong Communication Skills:

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

● Proficient in clear and concise writing and editing.

● Experience in developing and executing a communications strategy utilizing social media platforms.

● Strong interpersonal skills with various stakeholders, maintaining diplomacy and good relations.

● Exceptional problem-solving abilities.

Self-Motivated and Remote Work Capable:

● Persistent, creative, and solutions-oriented.

● Capable of effective work planning to achieve goals and communicate responsively.

Qualifications:

● Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

● A minimum of 10 years of experience in nonprofit work, including grant writing and operational leadership.

● Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail.

● Ability to interpret and present complex information clearly.

● Familiarity with budgets and financial statements related to grant applications.

● Excellent organizational and time management skills.

● Ability to produce high-quality proposals and reports consistently.

● Self-motivated with a desire to work collaboratively and independently as needed.
