Senior Civil Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in the Nuclear Power Plants sector. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in the assigned project(s) and be responsible for developing design plans and methodology.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement design plans and methodology for nuclear power plants and industrial buildings.
- Provide technical instructions to junior staff and designers to develop engineering documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations, including Canadian and International Codes and standards used in Civil/Structural engineering.
- Perform static, dynamic, and seismic analysis of structures and foundations using analysis software programs such as ANSYS, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, etc.
- Develop and review detailed design calculations and analysis for structural systems involving steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry elements.
- Compile engineering packages and coordinate structural work with the work of other engineering disciplines.
- Perform design review or design verification on technical documents prepared by others.
- Ensure the quality, consistency, accuracy, and completeness of engineering deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and apply sound engineering principles to resolve technical issues.
- Support analysis of structural systems and elements as required.
- Assist in timely and quality project delivery.
- Assist supporting engineers in day-to-day engineering activities and coordination.
- Prepare and review technical specification documents.
- Ensure the quality, consistency, accuracy, and neatness of engineering deliverables.
- Apply sound engineering principles to assigned engineering activities.
- Accountable for delivering all engineering deliverables/tasks to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets.
- Assist the Team Lead with work plans and deliverables and ensure adequacy of scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Provide technical instructions to junior staff or designers to develop engineering documentation.
- Review and comment on the work performed by others to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and design documentation.
- Check the work performed meets the quality requirements in accordance with Company QA programs and manuals.
- Provide engineering input and support to Field Engineering groups.
- Obtain inputs as required from plant commissioning, operations, and maintenance personnel and client engineering and scientific specialists in interfacing disciplines.
- Participate in formal engineering design and other reviews as may be mandated for the design changes in question.
- Prepare engineering estimates and technical write-ups for proposals.
- Civil Engineering degree from an accredited University with a minimum of 12 years of structural analysis and design experience in steel and concrete structures in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings.
- Master's degree and above is an asset.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, in good standing.
- Deep and thorough understanding of structural engineering gained through a combination of design-office and site experience.
- 3 to 5 years of site or field experience in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings is an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian and International Codes and standards used in Civil/Structural engineering.
- Thorough knowledge of the use of at least one analysis software commonly used in Civil/Structural engineering such as StaadPro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, etc.
- Must have experience with static, dynamic, and seismic analysis of structures and foundations.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and Mathcad.
- Adequate knowledge of established Nuclear QA guidelines, procedures, and practices is preferable.
- Adequate knowledge of applicable nuclear safety codes and regulations is an asset.
- Sound knowledge of Civil/Structural Engineering principles.
- Knowledge of the modification process of Nuclear Power Plant; ECC process or similar is an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience working collaboratively in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
- Must undertake assigned engineering work independently.
- Must be willing to work on multiple tasks/projects.
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills and analytical aptitude.
- Must have experience in working in a project environment.
- Must be willing to work in the field on assignment.
- Must have good skills in time management and setting priorities.
- Must have good communication skills to coordinate with the team and interface with clients.
- Must be able to demonstrate effective organizational skills.
- Must have working knowledge of NBCC, CSA, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
- Self-motivated, and able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to work in an ever-changing environment with conflicting priorities.
- Ability to manage work effectively under tight schedules and budgets.
- Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
- Travel to client site is required.
