ERM Group is in search of a seasoned Managing Consultant to significantly contribute to our operations in the Calgary office or remotely within the region. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in conducting wetland and biological assessments, as well as managing permitting initiatives associated with renewable energy, transmission, or other major development projects. Experience in solar projects is highly desirable. As a senior technical authority and project leader, you will oversee permitting and due diligence processes, offer guidance in biological field surveys, research to clarify permitting prerequisites, liaise with pertinent jurisdictions throughout the permitting phases, devise permitting strategies, and manage permit submissions. Additionally, you will be involved in teams executing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, state-level equivalent assessments, and environmental permitting for large-scale capital initiatives across various regions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide expert management on wetland and regional waters delineations, habitat evaluations, and species-specific surveys. Preference for candidates with federal bat biologist permits.
  • Lead the development of local, state, and federal permitting documentation. Contribute to the creation of permitting deliverables, assuming roles from lead technical expert to quality assurance. Engage in project delivery tasks such as report generation, data collection, field surveys, literature reviews, and formulating recommendations for clients.
  • Oversee multiple projects while adhering to client scope, budget, and timeline expectations, ensuring high-quality standards for project outputs.
  • Prepare technical proposals, including the formulation of technical scopes and cost assessments, and engage in business development with existing clients and prospective leads. Foster client relationships to encourage repeat business.
  • Collaborate with other ERM IAP professionals to execute Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) projects, which encompass environmental impact assessments, land use planning, facility siting & permitting, and risk evaluations.
  • Supervise junior and mid-level consulting personnel to enhance their skills in technical planning and permitting.
  • Stay informed about ongoing and anticipated projects in the Capital Cities Area and surrounding regions to assist with staff coordination and identify staffing requirements.
  • Comprehend ERM's service areas and market strategies, participating in recruitment and interview processes to cultivate a strong and cohesive regional team.
  • Establish robust collaborative relationships with ERM colleagues locally, regionally, and nationally.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS/MS in biology, ecology, or environmental sciences.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in due diligence and permitting, including consulting for private-sector clients.
  • High level of technical proficiency and extensive knowledge of biological field assessment and permitting methodologies, with a solid understanding of key biological impact assessment and management issues related to land development projects (e.g., wetland delineations, protected species evaluations, stormwater management, etc.).
  • Strong team-building and influencing capabilities; integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain enduring relationships with major clients.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work seamlessly as part of a team.
  • Exceptional writing, communication, presentation, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Recognized technical expertise and established reputation in the local market, including the ability to foster a positive rapport with local land use officials.
  • Positive attitude, collaborative spirit, and commitment to the success of ERM as a global entity.
