Position Overview:

ERM is in search of a seasoned Senior Environmental Consultant to play a pivotal role in expanding our consultancy services. This position can be based in a remote location or within our Calgary office.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in leading assessments and permitting projects related to wetlands and biological environments, particularly in the context of renewable energy, transmission, and other significant development projects.

This role presents an exceptional opportunity to enhance your career with ERM's proficient consulting teams, focusing on renewable energy permitting while also engaging in projects related to onshore wind, electrical transmission, oil & gas, and technology infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage permitting and due diligence processes, providing expert leadership in biological field surveys.
  • Conduct thorough research to define permitting requirements and coordinate with relevant authorities throughout the permitting process.
  • Develop comprehensive permitting plans and oversee the preparation of permit applications.
  • Participate in teams conducting compliance reviews under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and state-level equivalents for large-scale capital projects.
  • Provide technical expertise on wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and species-specific surveys.
  • Lead the preparation of local, state, and federal permitting documentation.
  • Deliver project activities including report writing, data collection, survey fieldwork, and literature review.
  • Ensure projects align with client scope, budget, and schedule expectations while maintaining quality standards.
  • Prepare technical proposals, including scope development and cost estimation, while engaging in business development with existing clients.
  • Foster client relationships to support ongoing business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with ERM practitioners to execute Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) projects.
  • Supervise junior and mid-level consulting staff, aiding in their professional development.
  • Stay informed about current and projected projects in the broader region to assist with staff coordination and identify staffing needs.
  • Understand ERM's service areas and market strategy, participating in recruitment efforts to build a cohesive regional team.
Qualifications:

5 to 10 years of experience in due diligence and permitting, specifically in consulting for private-sector clients.

• High level of technical expertise and comprehensive knowledge of biological assessment and permitting practices.

• Proven experience in cultivating sustainable relationships with major clients.

• Exceptional writing, communication, presentation, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills.

• Recognized as a technical expert with a solid reputation in the local market.
