Position Overview

The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking a dedicated and skilled Territorial Nurse Practitioner to enhance public health services across the region. This role has transitioned to a full-time position, reflecting our commitment to providing comprehensive health care to our communities.

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) is at the forefront of health and social service delivery in Canada's North. With a diverse workforce serving over 43,000 residents, our organization is dedicated to improving health outcomes and fostering healthy communities.


Role Responsibilities

As a Territorial Nurse Practitioner specializing in Public Health, you will operate autonomously within a broad scope of practice, integrating clinical expertise in nursing and medicine. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering a comprehensive range of health services to individuals throughout their lifespan.
  • Utilizing your clinical knowledge to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of public health service delivery.
  • Improving patient care outcomes for the NTHSSA population.
  • Engaging in both direct clinical care and program-level public health initiatives.

In this capacity, you will play a crucial role in the identification and management of communicable diseases, including:

  • Vaccine administration
  • Tuberculosis control
  • Sexually transmitted infection management
  • Communicable disease surveillance
  • Case management and contact tracing

As a clinical leader, you will mentor public health nurses and collaborate with other health professionals to ensure best practices are followed in public health programming.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A nursing degree and a master's degree in nursing or an MSc-Nurse Practitioner.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant clinical nursing experience, particularly in public health and community health settings.

Additionally, you must be eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Nurse Practitioners and have successfully completed a criminal record check.
