KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Refrigeration Plant Operator, you will report to the Chief Operating Engineer and Maintenance Supervisor. Your primary duties will include:

  • Operating the ammonia plant safely in accordance with TSSA regulations.
  • Monitoring the Life Safety program.
  • Conducting preventative maintenance on various refrigeration equipment, including compressors and condensers.
  • Inspecting and maintaining condensers, evaporators, and fans.
  • Managing water treatment levels to protect equipment from corrosion.
  • Ensuring rooftop HVAC units are functioning correctly.
  • Replacing filters and cleaning HVAC units as necessary.
  • Monitoring ammonia condensers and water softeners.
  • Performing basic facility maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Adhering to departmental policies and procedures to maintain consistency in operations.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certification as a Class B Operator is required.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in an Ammonia Operator or Shift Engineer role, ideally in a warehouse setting.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong mechanical and technical skills for maintenance tasks.
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics.
  • Effective communication skills for data exchange and feedback.
  • Proficiency in various computer applications, including Maintenance Management Software and MS Office.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and WHMIS.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and standards is an asset.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be physically fit to perform duties in cold environments, with temperatures ranging from -18 to -25 degrees Celsius.
