Position Overview

The Financial Accountant will be responsible for the preparation and analysis of monthly financial reports, maintaining comprehensive records, supporting inventory processes at month-end, and assisting with various accounting responsibilities including balance sheet reconciliations and tax submissions. The successful candidate will possess a degree in accounting, a minimum of two years of relevant experience, and a high level of proficiency in Excel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate monthly financial statements along with necessary reports.
  • Collaborate with the Controller to prepare divisional financial statements.
  • Identify and investigate discrepancies, providing recommendations for resolution.
  • Analyze financial entries, reports, and data thoroughly.
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute monthly reporting documentation.
  • Prepare and disseminate gross profit reports bi-monthly.
  • Assist in the month-end inventory reconciliation process.
  • Work with relevant departments to finalize inventory for assessment.
  • Conduct monthly counts of finished products.
  • Execute balance sheet reconciliations and address any reconciling items.
  • Manage fixed asset schedules, including documentation for capital asset additions.
  • Prepare and submit luxury tax, GST, and PST remittances as needed.
  • Support the Controller in budget preparation and year-end processes by compiling necessary documentation.
  • Provide assistance for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable as required.
  • Handle accounting tasks for holding and real estate entities.
  • Document accounting procedures and processes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A degree in Accounting or equivalent experience in a computerized accounting environment (2+ years).
  • CPA designation or progress towards it is advantageous.
  • Expertise in preparing monthly financial statements and maintaining electronic working papers; advanced skills in MS Excel are essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a keen attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
