Become a Key Contributor at the City of Medicine Hat as an Airport Labourer

Full-time, Seasonal - Up to 6 Months

Are you prepared to play an essential role at Medicine Hat Regional Airport (YXH)? We are looking for committed and skilled Airport Labourers to assist in the upkeep of our airport facilities, ensuring safety and operational efficiency. This is a temporary, semi-skilled unionized role where you will have the chance to work with advanced equipment in a vibrant setting.

Your Primary Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate and maintain airport maintenance machinery, including snow removal vehicles, runway cleaning equipment, snow blowers, loaders, and more.
  • Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on airport facilities and grounds, ensuring adherence to safety regulations.
  • Engage in the Airport Safety Management System (SMS) and security initiatives, promptly reporting any hazards or incidents.
  • Assist in the implementation of corrective measures as necessary and contribute to the Airport Emergency Response and Security Plans.
  • Manage wildlife activities and maintain the grounds in accordance with the Airport Wildlife Management Program.
  • Project a positive representation of the airport through all interactions with staff, tenants, and the public.

What You Bring:

  • Reliability and dependability, with the capacity to work overtime, rotating, and irregular shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • The ability to learn the safe operation and routine maintenance of specialized airport equipment.
  • A working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to utilize various software and technologies.
  • Strong communication skills for understanding and executing instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Physical strength to lift and move heavy objects and perform tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • The ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent high school diploma.
  • A valid Alberta Class 3 driver's license with airbrake endorsement and an acceptable driving record.
  • Current or ability to obtain Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
  • Ability to obtain an Airport Vehicle Operator's Permit (AVOP), Restricted Radio Operator's Certificate with Aeronautical (ROC-A), and a Restricted Area Security Pass (RASP).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
