Position Overview

The Rehabilitation Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting with both direct and indirect patient care tasks, as well as non-patient related responsibilities as directed by the Therapist or Manager. This position encompasses essential departmental functions such as transporting patients, preparing necessary equipment, and ensuring treatment areas, equipment, and supplies are well-maintained.

Experience

  • Prior experience in a rehabilitation setting is preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • A minimum of Grade 12 education is required.
  • A recognized Rehabilitation Aide certificate is mandatory.
  • Consideration may be given to candidates pursuing an academic degree in Physiotherapy (PT) or Occupational Therapy (OT), as well as to internationally trained graduates of OT or PT.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and both verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • A courteous and cooperative demeanor is expected.
  • Ability to work independently within designated responsibilities.
  • Flexibility to adapt to ongoing changes is necessary.
  • Demonstrates proper body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Maintains discretion and confidentiality regarding all hospital, patient, and resident matters.

Physical Requirements

  • Must possess good physical and mental health to meet the demands of the position.
  • Willingness to work extended hours may be required.
  • Potential exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
