Company Overview: Our client is a leading technology firm valued at over a billion dollars, recognized for its exceptional workplace culture across Canada and the United States. They have partnered with ROSS to identify a Director of Tax and Treasury.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role is pivotal in overseeing comprehensive tax compliance and strategic planning for both sales and income taxes in Canada and the U.S. Additionally, the position entails managing cash forecasting, optimizing liquidity and debt levels, and contributing to the formulation of an effective capital structure. The role also involves managing banking relationships and addressing foreign exchange risks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tax Management:

  1. Oversee the preparation of approximately 50 sales tax returns monthly;
  2. Coordinate with auditors;
  3. Prepare federal and provincial/state income tax returns along with tax working papers for audited financial statements;
  4. Identify and execute tax planning strategies;
  5. Assess and refine transfer pricing models and practices.

Treasury Management:

  1. Enhance and refine both short-term and long-term cash forecasting models;
  2. Lead the cash applications team;
  3. Monitor and manage cash flow and debt obligations;
  4. Develop an optimal capital structure;
  5. Identify and mitigate foreign exchange exposures; formulate suitable hedging strategies as required;
  6. Evaluate and manage interest swap opportunities; oversee interest level tranches within the current debt framework.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. Manage one manager and a tax team of one; oversee a cash applications team of four.
  2. Focus on staff development and career progression is essential in this area.

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Educational Requirement: University Degree; CA is highly preferred. CMA with extensive experience; completion of CICA in-depth tax course or equivalent.
  2. 5-10 years of post-designation experience.
  3. In-depth knowledge of Canadian and U.S. income tax regulations.
  4. Experience in Transfer Pricing.
  5. Corporate experience, particularly with Canada and U.S. branches or headquarters.
  6. Advanced proficiency in Excel modeling.
  7. Strong background in hedging strategies.

Non-Technical Skills: Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities; adept at managing shifting priorities and multiple deadlines; excellent organizational and communication skills.
