**Job Summary**

Volker Stevin Contracting is seeking a skilled Excavator Operator to join our team. As an Excavator Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an excavator, performing duties as assigned to ensure that completed work is delivered according to company policies and procedures, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, and contract specifications.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Operate an excavator and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
  • Perform routine daily cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refuel equipment as necessary.
  • Understand, interpret, and follow directions from supervisors as to required work area.
  • Ensure trenches are excavated safely to the proper depth/grade.
  • Cut grade with minimal time spent on excavating to ensure production is on schedule.
  • Conduct trench work, which meets OH&S requirements.

**Technical Requirements**

  • Knowledge of excavator operation and other heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of underground utility construction.
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  • Understanding of DEF systems and operation standards.

**Working Environment/Conditions**

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 30 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Possible out of town and weekend work as required.
  • Must comply with the Company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.

**Requirements**

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean Driver's Abstract (as per Company policy).
  • Minimum 1 – 3 years of experience operating an excavator.
  • Knowledge of underground industry standards, and OH&S requirements.
