Position Summary
This role offers an exciting opportunity to engage with cutting-edge laser processing systems and the latest advancements in robotics and machine tool technology. It is a hands-on technical position within a research and applications laboratory environment. You will take charge of the installation, configuration, upkeep, operator training, and documentation for a diverse array of high-end industrial machinery, including lasers, laser heads, robotic systems, PLCs, fieldbus communication setups, sectioning and polishing equipment, microscopes, and more from renowned global manufacturers. This equipment plays a crucial role in supporting research and development initiatives focused on next-generation process monitoring and control technologies, as well as process validation and operator training tailored to specific customer applications across various advanced manufacturing sectors.

This is a full-time, on-site role at our facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and scheduling the resources of the Applications Laboratory
  • Providing technical guidance and support to staff and clients utilizing the equipment
  • Preparing robotic and laser systems with the necessary configurations for specific experiments
  • Designing and planning simple automation solutions
  • Conducting regular maintenance and tracking service history for all equipment
  • Troubleshooting and repairing various laboratory electronics and control systems
  • Updating and enforcing training manuals and standard operating procedures
  • Assisting with metallographic cross-sectioning and polishing tasks
  • Analyzing test results through electronic reporting
  • Engaging in additional projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • A college diploma in industrial automation, electronics, robotics, or a related discipline, coupled with 3-5 years of relevant experience, *OR* a university engineering degree in a related field with 2-3 years of experience in a similar capacity
  • Proficiency in electronics, robotics, controls and automation, welding applications, and/or manufacturing technology
  • Fluency in two or more CNC/Robot programming environments such as G-Code, ABB, Kuka, or Fanuc
  • Proficiency in one or more common PLC/Ladder Logic programming environments
  • Experience in implementing and configuring factory automation/fieldbus networks (e.g., EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet)
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized and capable of working independently to achieve clearly defined objectives with minimal supervision
  • Excellent professional communication, negotiation, and instructional skills in English are essential
  • Proficiency in additional languages from the following list is not mandatory but may be beneficial: Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, German, Italian, French, Polish
