About the Role

This position plays a vital role in supporting the YMCA of Northern Alberta's mission to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As the Aquatics Coordinator, you will create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, while working on strategies to improve member experience, retention, and program quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Aquatics Supervisor in recruiting, hiring, training, and coaching swim instructor staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members, program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules, and refer program participants and families to other programs as needed.
  • Ensure YMCA Aquatics SAM standards are consistently met or exceeded, and support the supervisor in responding to service issues.
  • Provide on-deck and in-water coaching to swim instructor staff to meet scanning, health and safety, and program quality improvement standards.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by YMCA standards.
Requirements
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Minimum 1-2 years' experience in a leadership capacity in an Aquatics environment.
  • University degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Education, or related experience an asset.
  • Certifications: Standard First Aid & CPR-C, Lifesaving National Lifeguard (NL), YMCA Swim Instructor (YSI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), or Swim Instructor - Lifesaving (SI).
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level currency without expiry, as well as physical and mental readiness.
