We are seeking a Full-Time Environmental Health and Safety Manager for our Whitby location. This role is crucial for ensuring the overall safety of our facility through the development and execution of top-tier safety initiatives, infrastructure, and training programs for all personnel. Additionally, this position will offer support in employee relations throughout various stages of the employee lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with all departments to foster and enhance a robust safety culture aimed at achieving zero accidents.
  • Lead investigations into safety incidents, working alongside department and team leaders to focus on root cause analysis and effective countermeasure implementation.
  • Oversee safety and health-related vendors and suppliers.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on compliance measures related to safety, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations.
  • Develop and implement policies and practices to identify and mitigate hazardous conditions.
  • Chair the cross-functional Safety Committee, encouraging active participation from a diverse group of employees across the organization.
  • Coordinate safety-related audits and associated improvement initiatives.
  • Assess training needs and create a comprehensive program of internal and external courses that align with business requirements while meeting statutory health and safety obligations.
  • Participate as a member of the food safety team, integrating safety protocols into HACCP plans and procedures.
  • Lead initiatives to promote safety awareness and cultivate a safety-centric culture within the facility.
  • Organize and enhance the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring a positive introduction to the company.
  • Serve as an advisor to management on the application of occupational health and safety policies in business decisions and performance management.
  • Maintain accurate and current employee-related data.
  • Stay informed about legal requirements and government reporting regulations that impact policies and procedures.
  • Address inquiries regarding WSIB programs and educate employees on available benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Business, or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in an EHS-related position.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and relevant regulations.
  • Familiarity with food safety principles and regulations is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
  • Strong leadership and coaching abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with robust analytical skills for hazard identification and risk assessment.
