Job Title: Centre Director

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Centre Director to lead the Centre for Open Science and Synthesis in Ecology and Evolution at the University of Alberta.

About the Centre

The Centre conducts meta-research and research on data syntheses in ecology and evolutionary biology. We provide quantitative synthesis courses and workshops targeting early career scientists and scientists from the Global South.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily and strategic operations of the Centre
  • Assist and mentor lab members, provide feedback on manuscripts and research documents
  • Carry out complex research activities under the direction of the Principal Investigator
  • Purchasing lab equipment, organizing quantitative teaching courses/workshops, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety practices
  • Work with Finance Partner to monitor, analyse, forecast and report on Centre financials
  • Responsible for the completion and monitoring of Centre budgets
  • Manage space allocation (office and lab), including allocation of furniture and office equipment
  • Manage requests for access to/use of the computer, phone and other related systems
  • Coordinate the implementation of EDI (equity, diversity and inclusiveness) in the centre with the PI
  • May organize research project symposia, conferences, lectures, seminars or meetings
  • Advises on the application of University of Alberta Policies and Procedures
  • Builds and maintains relationships with external and internal networks and partners
Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a PhD in a related field and experience in research synthesis studies. Experience in supervising technical staff, advising graduate students, managing research programmes, teaching data analysis courses, and leading team projects is preferred. Experience in advanced statistics and AI is considered an asset.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
