Reporting to the General Manager of IT, the IT Application Support Specialist delivers comprehensive and detailed assistance for all project and ad hoc needs related to the various software applications employed by Volker Stevin Canada’s workforce.

This role is also tasked with the enhancement and optimization of existing IT resources.

​Key Responsibilities:

Operational Assistance:

Effectively communicate process modifications, enhancements, and adjustments – either verbally or through written documentation – to management, colleagues, staff, and other personnel to ensure clarity on issues and solutions.

Develop process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to guide system programmers.
Engage with diverse business units within the organization to facilitate the implementation of new or improved operational processes.
Coordinate and execute thorough testing, including end-user evaluations, for modified and new processes, along with other post-implementation support.

Utilize established communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to maximize the advantages of IT system investments and assist in the deployment of new computer systems.

Present and clarify information effectively to individuals with varying levels of expertise.

Acquisition & Implementation:
Collaborate in the planning, design, development, and rollout of new applications, as well as enhancements to existing systems.
Assist in researching software and hardware products to substantiate recommendations and support procurement efforts.

Qualifications & Experience:


College Diploma or University Degree in business administration, computer science, or management information systems. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in IT, including SQL programming and database management.

Experience with Power Platform (Power BI, Power App, Power Automate) is advantageous.
Proficient in SQL & PowerShell scripting environments and API interactions.
Solid understanding of network and Windows operating systems, including SQL Server.
Experience in business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development, and data modeling.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Crystal Reports, SQL 2008, SQL 2014, SQL Management Studio, SSIS, and SSRS. Familiarity with the operation and analysis of database hardware, software, and standards, as well as data retrieval methodologies.

Generate data for reporting software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flowcharts.
Create systematic and user-friendly operational procedures in both technical and layman’s terms.
Employ statistical and other research methods to address systems issues and product requirements as necessary.
Demonstrate project management skills and proficiency in project management software.
Experience with web and mobile application development tools is a plus.
