The Role

The Student Research Assistant, Research Ambassador – Health Sciences is a key position that plays a vital role in promoting and supporting research in the Faculty of Health Science at Douglas College. This role requires collaboration with the Health Sciences Research Coordinator, clinicians, researchers, students, and faculty members to achieve position outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in regular research committee meetings to stay updated on research initiatives and opportunities.
  • Communicate with students interested in research and provide support and guidance as needed.
  • Organize events and activities to promote health sciences research and engage faculty and students.
  • Advertise research opportunities within the health sciences and assist in the recruitment of research assistants when needed.
  • Create online resources and videos to support research initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Health Sciences Research Coordinator.

To Be Successful in this Role

  • You will need to have an interest in Health Sciences research and be familiar with college scholarly resources.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) are essential for this role.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to organize multiple tasks and projects effectively are required.
  • You must be detail-oriented and have a strong ethic of accountability.
  • Able to organize large amounts of data and experience with research software such as Excel, SPSS, NViVO, and EndNote is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team is essential.

Eligibility Criteria

Domestic students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:

  • Enrolled in and maintaining a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term.
  • Been enrolled in and maintained a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term.
  • Enrolled in and maintaining a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term.
  • Been enrolled in and maintained a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term.

International students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:

  • Enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year.
  • Enrolled in full-time studies at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. and has a valid Study Permit that has the notation – "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria."

Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions.
