The Role

The Student Research Assistant, Recreation and Models of Aging Care will work on the Who Cares? research project in the Department of Therapeutic Recreation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and compiling literature on therapeutic recreation, dementia, and aging
  • Writing an annotated bibliography of collected literature
  • Conducting and transcribing one-on-one interviews and focus groups
  • Inputting and analyzing survey data
  • Coding qualitative data using NVivo
  • Attending research team meetings and community events
  • Providing support to peer researchers and research participants

Research Objectives

The research project aims to explore the transformative impact of involvement in research activities on student research assistants. The Student Research Assistant will participate in research activities to gather data on this topic.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to be taking or have successfully completed a research course, such as THRT 3710. Other research experience is an asset.

Eligibility Criteria

Domestic students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for this role:

  • Be enrolled in and maintain a minimum of one or more 3-credit courses at Douglas College throughout the work term
  • Have been enrolled in and maintained a minimum of one or more 3-credit courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and intend to enroll in the term immediately following the work term
  • Be enrolled in and maintain a minimum of two or more 3-credit courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term
  • Have been enrolled in and maintained a minimum of two or more 3-credit courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and intend to enroll in the term immediately following the work term

International students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for this role:

  • Be enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year
  • Be an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that allows on-campus employment
