About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Indigenous Health Liaison Nurse to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing culturally appropriate nursing and intermediary services to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit clients.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Client Advocacy and Support: Act as a client advocate, clarifying expectations and providing support to clients and their families.
  2. Assessment and Referral: Conduct client assessments, identify needs, and refer clients to appropriate services, ensuring seamless transitions and optimal care.
  3. Health Promotion and Education: Provide education and promote health promotion initiatives to individuals, families, and Indigenous communities, empowering them to maintain holistic wellness.
  4. Health System Navigation: Act as a point of contact, assisting clients with health system navigation and liaising with programs and services across Fraser Health and community partners.
  5. Cultural Safety and Awareness: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Indigenous health, cultural practices, and protocols, promoting cultural safety and awareness within our organization.
  6. Public Relations and Advocacy: Represent Indigenous Health to medical, care, and support staff, community agencies, and their staff, promoting understanding and respect for Indigenous cultures and health beliefs.
  7. Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records, documentation, and statistics, preparing reports as required and in accordance with established standards and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), with a minimum of two years' recent, relevant nursing experience.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of nursing process, epidemiology, family health, health promotion, and community development, as well as the ability to provide consultation, make effective referrals, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Cultural Competence: Comprehensive knowledge of Indigenous culture, community resources, and agencies, with the ability to deliver culturally sensitive services to Indigenous populations.
