Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Head of Mine Planning and Capital Projects, the Senior Mining Engineer will be instrumental in developing Preliminary Feasibility Studies (PFS) for our underground mining operations. This role involves not only the creation of PFS but also the support of long-term mine planning, including five-year and one-year operational strategies for Burgundy's underground projects.

The Senior Mining Engineer will work within the Mine Planning Team at our Calgary Corporate Office, adhering to a Monday to Friday schedule, with occasional site visits required. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Mine Planning team, serving as the primary contact for PFS development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exemplifying Safety Leadership in daily operations;
  • Executing all tasks in alignment with corporate values and principles;
  • Developing PFS for underground mining initiatives;
  • Collaborating effectively with external technical consultants and contractors;
  • Assisting in the formulation of life-of-mine, long-range, five-year, and one-year mine plans;
  • Facilitating regular meetings to update stakeholders on PFS progress;
  • Establishing efficient water management systems;
  • Designing optimized underground mine layouts, including ramps and essential infrastructure;
  • Providing ventilation engineering support through simulations and network designs;
  • Conducting field assessments to ensure compliance with safety standards;
  • Completing monthly reporting and actuals as necessary;
  • Contributing to the development of Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP);
  • Mentoring and coaching junior team members;
  • Offering technical expertise in geotechnical monitoring and support systems;
  • Maintaining strong relationships with contractors.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Mining Engineering with approximately 10 years of experience in underground mining or technical consulting. Supervisory or mentorship experience is a plus. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Canada is required, with preference for those registered in the Northwest Territories;
  • PMP certification or experience in project management is essential;
  • Hands-on experience with sub-level caving and block caving mining methods;
  • Experience in capital forecasting and economic modeling;
  • Demonstrated expertise in mine design, scheduling, ventilation design, and drill & blast operations;
  • Proficiency in Deswik is mandatory; familiarity with other software (e.g., MS Office Suite, Ventsim, AutoCAD, or Vulcan) is advantageous;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills in English;
  • Leadership and organizational abilities;
  • Knowledge of mining safety protocols;
  • Effective time management and decision-making capabilities;
  • Working knowledge of SAP is beneficial;
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively to enhance efficiency and productivity;
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is required;
  • Experience in the mining sector, particularly in northern Canada, and familiarity with the northern regulatory landscape is preferred.
