Position Overview
The selected candidate will collaborate with diverse project teams, delivering project and task oversight along with technical expertise primarily for Barr Engineering Co.'s mining clientele, in addition to other sectors such as heavy industry and energy production. Key responsibilities encompass steering technical evaluations pertaining to water balance modeling, hydrologic and hydraulic assessments, and engineering investigations.
This role necessitates engaging with, coordinating, and potentially leading project teams, mentoring junior engineers, advising clients on effective mine water management practices, providing environmental consultancy, drafting technical documentation, and pursuing business opportunities through presentations and proposals. Occasional short-term travel for site evaluations may be required.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering
- A decade of relevant experience emphasizing mining and mine water management
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for immediate registration with APEGA
- Proficiency in hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality methodologies, modeling tools, and software such as GoldSim, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, among others
- Familiarity with publicly accessible datasets for hydrologic assessments
- Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated project management capabilities
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
- Valid driver's license
Desirable Qualifications:
- Over 10 years of experience in consulting engineering or the mining industry
- Master's or Doctorate in civil or environmental engineering
- Strong client relationships and expertise in water resources engineering for regulatory compliance
- Specialization in areas such as data analysis, risk-informed decision-making, and due diligence services
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this role, which is based in Barr Engineering Co.'s Calgary office.
Some job sites may present challenging terrain or necessitate the handling of equipment. Safety training and drug screening may be part of the employment process.
