Work Description:
The Foreman plays a pivotal role in managing construction projects and leading teams. This position requires substantial experience in overseeing water lines, piping systems, and sewer infrastructure, ensuring their optimal operation and upkeep. Such expertise is essential for upholding quality standards while working collaboratively with various stakeholders, including employees, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, in accordance with the objectives and protocols of Taggart Group of Companies. Working closely with the Superintendent, the Foreman identifies potential challenges and devises tailored strategies to address the complexities associated with water infrastructure projects.
Major Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision:
- Effectively organize the crew to ensure clarity in individual roles.
- Provide consistent follow-up, feedback, and coaching to team members.
- Ensure daily and weekly tasks are executed to meet production targets.
- Evaluate staff competency and capabilities.
- Identify training needs and facilitate appropriate training sessions.
- Establish effective communication and progress reporting to Superintendents.
Health and Safety:
- Guide the team on safe and efficient work practices.
- Enforce all policies and procedures set by Taggart Group of Companies.
- Ensure compliance with the Safety program at all times.
- Participate in investigations and reviews of accidents/incidents.
- Assist in all safety reporting functions, ensuring timely submission of reports to maintain legislative compliance.
- Foster a culture of safety, holding each foreman accountable for their crew's safety.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements and liabilities.
Labour Relations:
- Ensure adherence to Taggart's Labour Relations policies and procedures.
- Recognize and address any issues that may arise within the crew.
- Set and uphold work standards and behavioral expectations to promote crew morale and productivity.
Administration and Reporting:
- Maintain foreman's diaries, ensuring timesheets are filled out accurately and consistently.
- Timely submission of documentation to head office is essential.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by management.
Statement of Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Post-secondary Certificate in Civil Engineering Technologist or relevant formal technical training (preferred).
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of line and grade surveying.
- A minimum of years' experience as a foreman in water and sewer projects.
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
- Basic computer and administrative skills.
- Ability to interact with individuals sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally.
Physical/Sensory Effort:
- Work in a loud and busy environment.
- Provide support to multiple managers while meeting simultaneous deadlines.
- Interact with management, colleagues, visitors, and government personnel.
Work Environment:
- Work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
- Travel between different job sites is required.
- Overtime may be necessary.
