Job Title: Academic and Operations Officer

ASM Global at Meridian Centre and Canada Games Park is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Academic and Operations Officer to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our venues, including the Meridian Centre and Canada Games Park.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the venues, including maintenance, repairs, and renovations.
  • Coordinate with other departments and event-related contractors to ensure facility readiness and smooth operation of events.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans and annual budgets for the operations department.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the physical plant, systems, HVAC, facility equipment, and vehicles.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget and recommend a capital budget for 1-year and 5-year long-range repairs and improvements to the facility.
  • Provide yearly inventory of all equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, risk management, safety precautions, rules/regulations, and emergency procedures.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety, and risk management policies in compliance with all corporate and governmental regulations.
  • Act as liaison to public utility, environmental, and energy agencies.
  • Assist the General Manager in the implementation of any energy-saving guidelines.
  • Coordinate and oversee special projects, such as construction, remodeling, or expansion.
  • Plan and direct outside vendors/contractors' work to ensure compliance with contracts and safety requirements.
  • Manage subordinate managers/supervisors at both Meridian Centre and Canada Games Park venues in any of the following departments: maintenance, operations, production, public safety, security, and/or parking departments.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant professional discipline or an equivalent combination of education and/or progressive experience in the field (management, facilities, technology, or relevant skilled trades and/or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in supervising or managing in a similar facility (additional experience may be substituted for education).
  • Proven experience in similar facilities, producing a high volume of repairs and renovations while facilities are occupied, experience with trades, building automation systems, and controls are preferred.
  • Knowledge of legislation, regulations, and building codes related to building operations (i.e., Building and Fire Codes, in-depth Occupational Health & Safety Act) is an asset.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial resources effectively.
  • Management experience required.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Requires ability to work flexible and extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.
Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, and also Asset Management software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • TSSA Refrigeration Operator class B certificate is an asset.
  • Certified Ice Technician is considered an asset.
