Equipment Maintenance Specialist

Position Overview
Under the guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor, this role involves providing essential maintenance support for various equipment, utilities, systems, and facilities, aimed at improving productivity, quality, and safety standards. The technician will engage in a range of activities including installation, modification, repair, fabrication, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and the execution of protocols, all in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) regulations.
Daily Responsibilities
- Conduct or assist in the setup, changeover, preventative maintenance, installation, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of site equipment, utilities, systems, and facilities, adhering to established SOPs, GMP guidelines, and EH&S policies while collaborating in a team environment.
- Identify, propose, and implement approved enhancements to procedures, equipment, utilities, systems, and facilities to boost productivity, quality, or safety of products and processes. Capable of fabricating parts and proficient in operating various machinery such as mills and lathes.
- Perform safe operational checks on equipment and systems, detect and investigate performance variances to ensure proper functioning, and identify concerns as necessary, possessing knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
- Identify OEM or spare parts by consulting machine manuals when necessary, and communicate with the supervisor regarding purchases prior to initiating requests. Create work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) while following purchasing guidelines.
- Execute qualification and validation protocols for the installation, commissioning, and operation of equipment, utilities, systems, and facilities as required, completing necessary compliance documentation, logbooks, and timesheets.
- Maintain current training and awareness of relevant legislated codes, EH&S procedures, SOPs, and GMP requirements. Engage in ongoing training to adapt to technological changes at the site and enhance knowledge of facilities, systems, and equipment. Complete all assigned training related to SOPs, EH&S, and GMP on the computerized training system in a timely manner.
Qualifications and Experience
- Required: High School Diploma. Preferred: Technician or Technology diploma.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of mechanical or electro-mechanical experience.
- One or more of the following Ontario accreditations/certifications: Mechanical (Millwright), Electrical (Industrial or Construction & Maintenance Electrician), Calibration (Electro-Mechanical, Instrument, Electronics) (an asset), HVAC Technician (an asset), or comparable certifications.
- Proficient in the use of tools, equipment, and measuring/calibration/diagnostic devices.
- Functional knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS), CMMS, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Windows operating systems.
- Experience in cGMP, WHMIS, and the pharmaceutical industry or other GMP environments is preferred.
