OVERVIEW

The Quality Control Laboratory Technician is an integral part of the Florida Crystals / ASR Group Quality Team, reporting directly to the Laboratory Supervisor. This role is essential for executing daily testing protocols, collecting and shipping various samples, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring a proficient laboratory environment and quality systems.

This is an hourly position requiring 12-hour shifts that follow a continental shift pattern.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts a diverse range of tests including, but not limited to, raw sugar, molasses, liquid sugars, and various sugar types.
  • Analyzes and coordinates communications related to Critical Control Points (CCPs) and Critical Quality Points (CQPs).
  • Prepares and manages communications regarding Certificate of Analysis (COA) data.
  • Performs and coordinates verification of laboratory equipment, troubleshooting, and third-party services.
  • Collects, organizes, and ships various samples to external laboratories.
  • Organizes and ships samples for environmental monitoring programs.
  • Handles microbiological sample collection and shipping to third-party laboratories.
  • Reviews, updates, and maintains records and trends from various data sources.
  • Facilitates effective communication regarding issues, objectives, and initiatives.
  • Participates in proficiency testing and round robin assignments.
  • Engages in all quality and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) training.
  • Promotes and practices Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety protocols.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in food science or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing laboratory environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Visio).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in sugar manufacturing or distribution.
  • Familiarity with SAP systems.
