Position Summary

The Laboratory Analyst plays a crucial role within the Quality Team in Toronto, directly reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities related to daily testing protocols, sample collection and dispatch, and the upkeep of laboratory equipment, ensuring a high standard of laboratory practices and quality assurance.

Work Schedule

This role operates on an hourly basis, with working hours typically from 7am to 3pm, subject to operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts a comprehensive range of tests on raw materials including sugar, molasses, and various sugar products.
  • Analyzes data and communicates findings related to Critical Control Points (CCPs) and Critical Quality Points (CQPs).
  • Prepares and manages communications concerning Certificates of Analysis (COA).
  • Oversees laboratory equipment verification, troubleshooting, and coordination with third-party services.
  • Collects, organizes, and ships samples for external laboratory analysis.
  • Facilitates the collection and shipping of samples for environmental monitoring.
  • Organizes microbiological sample shipments to external laboratories.
  • Reviews and maintains records and trends from various data sources.
  • Ensures effective communication regarding issues, objectives, and initiatives.
  • Participates in proficiency testing and round robin assignments.
  • Engages in quality and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) training.
  • Adheres to and promotes Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety protocols.
  • Undertakes additional tasks as required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in food science or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a manufacturing laboratory setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Visio.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience in sugar manufacturing or distribution is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with SAP systems is preferred.
